For a long time, I have dreamed about ministry by blogging.
I have made friends through my blogs. I have shared my thoughts with members of my congregation. I have processed what has been on my own heart and my own mind. Most of all, I have prayed through blogging.
My most recent blog (apologies if that is a dead link) mused about impossible things. On vacation, flying over the ocean, I watched Alice in Wonderland with the fabulous Johnny Depp. Maybe I had heard the quote before. Maybe not. In all honesty, I never did read the book by Lewis Carroll. But, there was something that struck me about this line: “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
Maybe it’s because my statement on ministry — which I was once required to write for the search and call process in the United Church of Christ — mused upon such impossible things whether they are spoken of by Mother Mary or Jesus Christ.
Now, with only 25 days left at my current call, I’m getting ready to embark on new impossible things — impossible things like I have never known. And I have to believe that what is impossible for mortals is indeed possible for God (Luke 18:27, New Revised Standard Version). I just have to believe it.
Soon and very soon, I’ll be blogging about it as I’ve done before.
I hope — as blogging has been before — that it is indeed a prayer practice.
And I hope you’ll join me in prayer.
